I am happy as hell that we are expecting a little girl, but it has added one item to our "to do" list in preparing for her arrival. We have, for quite some time, had a boy's name picked out. However, since my chromosomes( I guess that's right. I'm no geneticist.) chose female, we need to find a girl's name. This task would be easier if I wasn't The Most Indecisive Man In The World. Amanda has made many suggestions, most of which I have vetoed. She too has vetoed many, but that's usually because I've suggested something like Persephone or Athena. We are searching for something somewhere between common and Celebrity Scientologist Wacky. No Jennifer, yet no Pilot Inspektor. (Damn you, Jason Lee. You used to be cool.)
This is where you come in dear reader. In an informal, NON-BINDING poll I'm asking you to cast a vote for a name from this list we've narrowed. Write-ins are also welcome. For the middle name we have chosen Grace, for Amanda's grandmother. That is, unless we use Grace as the first name. (Told you I was indecisive.)
The List:
Ava Grace, Natalie Grace, Sydney Grace (with a Y, of course), Mallory Grace, Abby Grace, Jessica Grace, Rory Grace, Grace Catherine, Grace Audrey(after both our grandmothers).
My father-in-law has also suggested we settle this with a "Wheel of Fortune"-type wheel to be spun at the baby shower. I'm filing that one under M for Maybe.

Amazing Grace...?
how about Juno?
Karen and I agreed that we'd have to see the baby before we could decide on a name. That gives you an excuse to be indecisive right until the last minute...
ok So the name I think isnt on your list but it sort of is I personally don't like the name grace as a first name but i do like it as a middle name. but what about Audrey Grace. audrey is a unique enough first name that its still cool and grace kind of follows it nicely. Anyway thats my sugestion it also still has a Y then.
st4rbux- that's what my brother said-wait to see her. Does she look like a sydney, etc. And it definitely feeds my indecisive/procrastinating personality.
We almost named Ella Aayla, a name we bothed liked, though I thought could come off as a little too ghetto. Aayla Securra is the blue skinned Jedi (the actress who played her is hot) who gets offed by her clones in ROTS, but is also a Finnish name meaning bringer of the light. If we were to have another girl, I think it would be reconsidered.
With Felix, we had four names picked out, all of which could be worked together - Felix, Robert, Orion, and Zeke. We knew early on though that he'd be F.O.
With Ella, we didn't know until a day or so after she was born. Was she an Ella or an Emily. She let us know that she wasn't any Emily and we're glad...we had no idea of how popular Emily had become in recent years. I still like that name though. I've always wanted an Ella though.
Before you come up with anything colorful that sticks, be sure to Wiki or do what ever research you need to do on pornstar names. You don't want to accidentally name your daughter after AVN's starlet of the year. Felix had a couple girls in his class this year whose names made them sound like future performers.
I like Bryan's suggestion of Audrey Grace.
I like Rory or Ava the best, I think. But who knows.
I was indecisive too, but am such a "planner" that I had to know so I could have her quilt monogrammed.
Had I waited, I may have named her Screaming Harpy because she literally didn't stop crying for the first hour. Good thing I didn't, she stopped and then barely cried at all for a month.
I agree with everyone else, wait till you meet her in person, you'll know.
please don't have her first name end in a long "e" sound like most of your choices....it sounds too sing songy. because of that i have to pick ava grace from that list.
however i agree that you should have a few choices and decide after she is born. hell she might even look like a jennifer
Well, since you asked...from your list I'd have to go with Ava or Jessica or Grace Catherine. The others don't meet my criteria (Killer, can you read minds?). You didn't hear about my rules? Lucky you. Hailey ends with that "E" sound just like our last name, and I didn't want a name that had that "E" sound at the end for either the given name or the nickname. We had a list of about 10 names and didn't pick until she was over 24 hrs old! Some of the names we like the best just didn't fit her. Get a narrow list and then let her pick her name! :)
Karen- I get what your saying about the "e" sounds. My parents followed that criteria, hence Bryan and Kevin. They wanted no Timmy or Kenny, etc. Amanda and I have decided, however, that, though we generally subscribe to that theory as well, that we won't eliminate a name we like simply for that reason alone. And we figure we won't know her name until we see her. We just thought this would be fun exercise.
I know this won't affect your child's name at all...but Roland, Cathy and I were discussing this last night and they have agreed upon Ava...Brent

What ever you choose will be wonderful. In order I like Grace Catherine, Jessica Grace, and then Grace Audrey. the other option would be Catherine Grace and Audrey Grace. But then no matter her name she will be loved...Alvina
What about Wanda? Thats a good solid name.
Im kidding of course.
I like Jessica Grace.
Didn't baby Jessica fall in a well?
We had a name picked out for two and one had to wait until we saw her- but what helped me with the opinion poll was it made me certain which names I didn't like, because if they pulled in the lead there was that slight 'really? that one?? huh."- besides we heard from people we had thought we had lost total contact with when we set it up. Ava Grace gets my vote.
FROM A FATHER OF A JENNIFER (your cousin!): Regarding your comment that you and Amanda are not seeking a "common" name such as "Jennifer", you should know that according to Social Security records, for babies born in 2007, Jennifer was far from common. As a matter of fact, it was only the 64th most popular girls name. However, it was the 3rd most popular the year Jennifer was born in 1985. Before that it had a terrific run of being the most popular from 1970 to 1982, which I have no idea why! Then we went with Jill who when born in 1987 was the 197th most popular name. I think Jill would have preferred a MORE common name! haha. So I vote for ANY name that is not weird, will not confuse her with a male, can not be twisted on the playground to torment ("Georgy Porgy sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, etc" ARGHHHHH!!!). Remember SHE has to live with the name YOU both pick. Maybe you should ask around and see how many people who have rather had ANOTHER name! Roxanne and I (George) would have preferred other names. The Social Security website for the names is http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/.
Regards, Uncle George
I vote Ava Grace--very pretty!
-Your cous' with the 64th most common name in 1997
