Straight to Bargain.
This one is mostly for my bookselling friends. I read a recent column in the Washington Post that reiterates what we already know-there are a lot of crappy books being published. The column, written by somebody in the publishing industry, doesn't break much new ground, but helps explain some of the reasons the shelves are filled with junk.

The mulching of useless books is a great idea. As you may know its that time of year again thats right summer clearance. Just to let you know you might not want to stop in anytime soon. We had the koran on clearance which means that we'll probably be targeted by extremists around the world.
I like Jonathan Karp. I love the mission of Twelve - and some of the books have been wonderful. (Yes, I'm still pushing The Geography of Bliss) He sent me an email after I responded about one of the ARC's we got for one of the Twelve books.
Anyway - he's right. That's why the James Patterson book writing machine churns out new ones every other month. I hope he's treating those chimpanzees well.
