Hi, Ted Leonsis? The Major Indoor Lacrosse League called and they want their jerseys back.
The Caps revealed their new sweaters tonight and I am a bit underwhelmed. I am elated that they returned to the red, white and blue color scheme. That move was long overdue. However, I was hoping for something a little more dramatic than a retooling of the original jersey. It's strange-I usually like plain looks when it comes to unis. The Leafs, Red Sox and Cowboys all have an iconic feel because they aren't cluttered with zany stripes and swirls like so many jerseys today. These Caps jerseys, though uncluttered, are just boring.
Maybe it's because I never liked the original logo that seemed like an afterthought. (Uh, how about we write "capitals" on the shirt, but we'll make the T a hockey stick). So, I personally think returning to this logo, albeit slightly "futurized", is just an afterthought of an afterthought. Supposedly, they have been working on the design since 2005. So much for Ted L. being a marketing genius.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate them. I understand the numbers and name are much easier to read on TV and from the stands, so that's a plus. It will be cool to see the R,W and B flying around the rink. And the whole change is actually pretty insignificant. If they win, I don't care if they wear garbage bags. Finally, the good news is there is no debate over whether to pay $99 for a new replica jersey.
I know some of you guys liked the old logo. I'd enjoy hearing other thoughts on the new look.

I was wondering when one of you guys would post about them.I saw a leaked pic earlier this week. I like them, they're not the classic jersey's, but they aren't all bad. This is supposedly how most are gonna look thanks to Reebok. There was a pic of the Isles new jersey floating around this morning too. The sad thing is that these really are jerseys now not sweaters.
Kinda looks like a wet suit to me. Don't know much about hockey, but that's what I thought of when I saw your pic.
The black trim is the bad part. If they went true red, white and blue, I might be able to stomach it better...
I was on vacation, but on Friday night I made a special effort to find a computer so that I could get to the Caps site, all in hopes that I might see this wonderful new uniform we've been hearing about... well what a dissappointment... I love the R, W, & B, I don't like the retooling of the old logo, I actually like'd the original logo, so this one I'll call Caps logo Classic, just like the Coke Classic, ...only not.
My first thought was that it should be used in some European soccer league...
I've only seen one pic, I was so disgusted I had to close the page, so I've haven't seen the player nameplate, or the numbers, and probably won't until next season...
I was hoping to see the Capital building, or the Lincoln memorial, or the Washington monument, or even the George Jefferson monument on an old sweater with stars on the arms and the legs of the pants too...
Heck, we had nicer uniforms in the Seaford roller hockey league
We had much nicer uniforms in Easton
What sickens me is that someone collected a paycheck for designing this dog, my three year old has done better... and he works for Skittles and chocolate milk.
birdie -it is actually true red white and blue, at least that's the way it looked on tv-i believe there is no black on it
The trim looks really dark, even if it is blue. Just being picky. And I don't like the modern lines on the newwer style jerseys. Too much going on. Just give me a plain color and a patch on the front.
I also guess the DC United are playing on ice through the winter now looking at the new arm badge and puck logo. Waiting on the Naitonals and Wizzzzards to adopt a similar logo. Oh yeah, don't foret the Mystics.
OK, I willing spent a few minutes looking at the Caps site today... I almost like the shoulder logo, but it should have been on the chest of an original 70s style white sweater, complete with the red and blue stars instead. I hate the RBK modern cut uniform, give me a CCM sweater anyday.
Question... now that this eagle is sitting on the Capital building with a 'W' on his chest... are we re-re-naming the mascot back to 'Winger'? ...or is it a sign that the President is now a hockey fan?
Wow, the draft has come and gone and now the free agent frenzy has calmed and most quality players have been picked up. So far all they seem to have going for them this summer is new threads...worried?
